Version 3 of ITIL, the IT Infrastructure Library, as now been released.
Contrary to pre-release impressions the upgrade from version 2 brings with it significant changes to the content itself. The entire focus has changed, from an operationally focused perspective, to a lifecycle approach. The old volumes have been withdrawn, to be replaced with five new volumes. These are: Service Strategy: - Service Management strategy and value planning - Linking business plans and directions to IT service strategy - Planning and implementing service strategy Service Design: - Service design objectives and elements - Selecting the service design model - Cost model - Benefit/risk analysis - Implementing service design - Measurement and control Service Transition: - Managing organisational and cultural change - Knowledge management - Service knowledge management system - Methods, practices and tools - Measurement and control - Companion best practices Service Operation: - Application Management - Change Management - Operations Management - Control processes and functions - Scaleable practices - Measurement and control Continuous Service Imrpovement - Business and technology drivers for improvement - Justification - Business, financial and organisational improvements - Methods, practices and tools - Companion best practices A number of new topics have also been integrated, including Strategy Generation, Service Design Aspects, Supplier Management and Outsourcing Models.
